Healthy Eating Choices Made Easy

By Bob Steele

There are assorted incentives that lead us to rethink our food consumption and make positive changes. You may be setting your sights on a youthful appearance, weight control or just getting rejuvenated. The facts show that eating wholesome foods can influence your health when it comes to illness. With all this in mind, we'll be looking at some simple ways to enjoy the benefits of a healthier diet.

It's hardly a secret that eating more fruits, vegetables and whole grain is good for you, yet many people still don't do it. The problem here is that people simply prefer the less healthy foods over these foods. You can add foods that are less healthy to your meals providing you base your meals around the healthy foods. In other words, think in terms of adding more healthy foods to your diet rather than depriving yourself of foods you love. Eating bigger amounts of whole grains, fruits and vegetables will mean that you will not have much more room for things like sweets, carbohydrates and unhealthy snacks. Believe it or not, as you eat more healthy foods, you also start to develop a taste for them, so it's possible to improve your choices over time.

It seems to be popular opinion that by missing a meal you have made a healthful gesture; and will be benefited by eating fewer calories. Ordinarily, when you skip a meal, you will be most apt to overeat at your next meal. If you have to skip a meal, make sure it is not breakfast; this meal energizes your body which enables you to perform your day and allows you the time to work off some of those calories. Rather than skipping meals, it's best to eat smaller portions more frequently. Your body requires calories to fuel your body; this fuel is better applied in small doses rather than all at once.

Our diet needs to have as little trans fats as possible, which means reducing the amount of junk food we eat. Omega 3 fats are the types of fats that we need to eat rather than trans fats. Even eating saturated fats in moderation can be healthy when found in dairy products.

You will definitely see some changes if you can start implementing these small changes now.

To recap, you should have the information needed to give your eating behavior a healthy boost. It is not necessary to bring this into play all at one time. Reflect on some of this information and figure out how to add them into your daily routine. To coin a phrase, you are what you eat.
